    In the later years of our work together, Dr. Nick Gonzalez and I both noticed that we were seeing younger and younger patients developing cancers more typical of the elderly. This was a change from what we remembered from our medical training or the early days of the practice. A recent article in JAMA Network Open confirms that our observations were valid.

    To quote the abstract: “Generation X may be experiencing larger per-capita increases in the incidence of leading cancers than any prior generation born in 1908 through 1964. On current trajectories, cancer incidence could remain high for decades.” The article calls for more attention to be paid to healthy lifestyles, which I certainly agree with.

    This article reminds me of Dr. Weston A. Price’s investigations of the diets of indigenous peoples nearly a century ago, and of Pottenger’s famous cat studies. The health of each generation deteriorated as diets became loaded with processed foods.
