A recent article in the journal JAMA Oncology details the importance of healthy gut bacteria for the prevention of cancer, and for improved response to orthodox therapy. In terms of practical suggestions, the article focuses on avoidance of indiscriminant use of antibiotics and possible roles of pre- and probiotics and fecal transplants. The role of diet in the creation and maintenance of a healthy microbiome is barely mentioned; click here for an article about how important it is.
Despite such omissions, I found this article encouraging. Perhaps someday soon the oncology community will recognize that diet matters.
