My April 21, 2022 email (click here to read if you missed it) was about an article in the journal Science that reviewed recent research about metabolism – specifically, that increased exercise does not lead to more calories burned. Instead, with higher amounts of exercise, our bodies redistribute how energy is utilized. If a person’s only goal is weight loss, increasing exercise will
disappoint.
However, exercise is important for health. In a recently published article looking at the long-term risk of death from any cause, the investigators found that being physically fit is more important than being normal weight. Exercise may not help you lose weight, but it helps you stay healthier, live longer and feel better!
